The older I get, the more I realize, it’s more the heart behind things… than the action itself. And I can add a disclaimer here, this is something I’m working on, definitely not there yet. Sometimes I do the wrong thing, but I had good intentions and good motives. And then there’s other times, when I try to look like I’m doing the right thing, but my attitude stinks. If while serving God you are grumbling and complaining, smell your attitude, because it stinks. It does not line up with the character of God. He says do EVERYTHING without grumbling or complaining.
Thinking about another blog I wrote on checking ourselves, the most important thing to check is, the heart behind what we are going to say or what we are going to do. Are we doing something to bring glory to ourselves or are we doing something to bring glory to God. Are we doing something to serve others so we can get something or are we serving them because we love God.
There are many good things to do in this world , but we are not called to do all of them. You might be doing something good , but if it’s not the thing God has called you to it could be a bad thing for you. Especially in my case, where I tend to get busy doing all kinds of good things in order to procrastinate the things, that God has called me to that are hard for me. God never wants us to stop growing.
That’s when I need to pray and remember all things are possible to him who believes. If Gideon had all those men he originally had to fight the battle and won, It would look like it was him and his men accomplished the victory. In order for God to get the credit, God sent away the fearful people.
Two lessons here; if God’s in it …miracles happen, we don’t need what we think we need; and second Lesson is, God really doesn’t want to use fearful people. He sent away 22,000 men because they were fearful. Fear is the opposite of faith and without faith, we can’t please God.
How to check your hearts? Check your motives. Think about why you’re doing what you’re doing. What are your expectations?
Dear Jesus help us and all our “Sisters from another Mister”, to check our hearts see if they line up with God’s character, as we do life together. doing the right things for the right reasons. Help us to not be fooled or deceived by the enemies traps, in Jesus name, amen.
